ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 1, 2024) – The Poinsette Foundation’s Executive Director, Mia Poinsette, was presented with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden.
The Poinsette Foundation is a self-funded nonprofit that invests in educational programs and outings for children (grades K-12) in Orange and Osceola Counties. It primarily focuses on educational initiatives, strongly emphasizing its four impact pillars: advocacy, exposure, programs and mentorship. Since Mia established the Poinsette Foundation in April 2022, the organization has cultivated partnerships with 92 community organizations, invested nearly $300,000, and contributed thousands of volunteer hours to organizations across our community.
“I am forever grateful for this extraordinary recognition,” shared Mia Poinsette, the foundation’s Founder and Executive Director. “I wholeheartedly share this accomplishment with our founding Board members and team, who are equally passionate about serving.”
In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. As the highest U.S. civil volunteerism award, it is bestowed on those who have contributed more than 4,000 hours of service in their lifetime to positively impact communities.
In addition to her philanthropic work, Mia serves as the owner and Chief Executive Officer of The Driven Group, which provides safe and reliable school bus services to nearly 12,000 children daily in five locations throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C.
